Before you start
- Adding people needs permission to manage your team and settings. Owners and admins have it.
- Managers can invite Office and field staff, but not other admins or managers.
Invite an employee
- Open Team in the sidebar and select Add Employee.
- Enter their Email, First Name and Last Name.
- Choose a Role: Admin, Manager, Office, or your field role for people who work on site.
- Select Create Employee. Garrison emails them an invitation to set their password.
If the invitation gets lost, open the menu on their row and choose Resend Invite.
Keep employee details up to date
- On Team, open a person’s row menu and choose Edit.
- Update their contact details, address, emergency contact and date of hire.
- Admins and managers can set their Compensation Type: an hourly rate, a flat rate, or commission based.
- Select Save Changes.
Decide what each role can do
Each person has one role: Admin, Manager, Office or your field role. You decide what the roles below Admin can do.
- Open Settings and choose Roles & permissions.
- Open a role to see its permissions, grouped by area, and switch each one on or off. Admin always has every permission.
- Call your field role what your team calls it, such as Technician, with Display name.
- To change someone’s role, open their row on Team, choose Edit, and pick a new Role.
A person whose role only lets them see their own projects sees the projects they’re assigned to, as the field role, scheduler or supervisor.
When someone leaves
- On Team, open the person’s row menu and choose Archive. They become inactive, and their records stay in Garrison.
- Turn on Show Archived to find them again, and use Restore if they come back.
Delete removes a person permanently and can’t be undone. Archiving is almost always the better choice.
Review sign-in activity
- Open Settings and choose Security log. You’ll see sign-ins, failed attempts, password changes and file access, with the time, person, IP address and risk.
- Use Filters to narrow the list by event type, category, risk level or status. Open an event for its details.
Admins and managers can see the security log unless you change their role’s permissions.
Good to know
- Roles belong to one organization. Someone who works for two of your companies can have a different role in each.
- If someone can’t see a project, check their role and whether they’re assigned to that project.
- Nobody can archive or delete themselves or the owner, and only the owner can archive an admin.
